The DC metro area is full of national parks--not the kind we are
used to, but still national parks. Many of the city parks are not city parks at all but are in fact national parks run and maintained by the NPS. We even live across the street from a national park! One of the more interesting parks is
Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. I'm guessing most people did not even know that there was such a thing as an NP aquatic garden--but there is. Many ponds with many types of lilies. Apparently there is one lily that blooms only one day a year and only for a few hours--we have never seen that one. We have have made it a habit of going when the lotus blossoms are in bloom.

The blossoms are big, but the leaves are gigantic!

This year's trip was a play group activity. Here we are doing our lotus blossom craft.

The play group! (or at least some of them...)
